Health Care:

The heart of our practice is the excellent, up-to-the-minute veterinary medical care we provide for your beloved animal family member. As our mission statement says, our goal is to keep your pet healthy, so that you can enjoy a long, happy life together. All of us here at Ridgemont Animal Clinic have pets that we dearly love, too, so we know how important it is to keep our "furry friends" fit!

Medical & Surgical Care- From complete physical examinations to reconstructive surgery, we determine what your pet's health problems are and treat them, returning your pet to optimal health as soon as possible. Our care features:

Thorough physical examinations during which all systems of the animal's body are evaluated. We strive to answer all your questions and explain your pet's diagnosis with diagrams, models, or pictures to illustrate the information. We provide you with an "exam room report card", which details your pet's exam findings, as well as the doctor's recommendations for further diagnostic tests, necessary treatment, and future follow-up.

State of the art laboratory equipment which allows us to have results for most tests on blood and urine, and tests for infectious parasites and diseases within thirty minutes. For tests associated with more unusual diseases, we partner with Antech Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. We can overnight samples to Antech and have most test results the next morning.

Xray capabilities- Our large xray allows us to diagnose broken bones, heart disease, and those crazy animals who swallow pennies, fish hooks, and other weird stuff! We can run barium studies or kidney studies on the smallest kitten to the largest Great Dane.

Hospitalization and Intensive Care- Pets that are ill or post-surgery are closely monitored by doctors and technicians in a quiet environment. Our patients can receive treatment in one of our three wards, which are away from the boarded animals. For those patients needing greater supervision and for animals waking up from anesthesia, our intensive care unit keeps these dogs and cats right beside us, as it is part of our treatment area.

Advanced Services:

Dental Care- One of the most common health care concerns of cats and dogs today is oral disease caused by infections, injuries and developmental problems relating to the teeth. Dogs, in particular are hard on their teeth with their habit of chewing on hard objects such as bones, rocks, cow hooves, and inappropriate toys. The dogs have strong jaw muscles that clamp down on these objects, causing the tooth enamel to break or fracture. This often leads to an open pulp cavity, or "root canal", which must be treated or bacteria will spread into the tooth and jaw.

Both dogs and cats can accumulate plaque and tartar on their teeth and gums. This material is made up of food particles, saliva, and bacteria. It causes inflammation and infection of the gums, which eventually leads to pain, abscess formation and tooth loss.

Puppies, especially in the smaller breeds, can retain their "baby" teeth long after they should have fallen out. These extra teeth cause the adult teeth to be in the wrong location in the mouth, which can lead to excessive wear of the permanent teeth and an even greater problem with plaque than other dogs will have.

All these oral health problems can be treated. We provide a thorough cleaning for your pet's teeth, and recommend this procedure AT LEAST once a year after age three. Some patients are healthier and more comfortable with twice a year dental cleanings. When extractions are necessary, Dr. Core removes teeth using the most advanced techniques to insure proper healing and reduced pain. All extraction sites are sutured and owners are provided pain medication to give the pet for two or three days.
